NanoExplorers present their work at the institute’s annual research symposium. They have coauthored scientific papers, presented at international conferences, and won international scholarship competitions. Over 200 high school students have gone through the NanoExplorers program since its inception.

The Department of Chemisty, Physics & Engineering at Cameron University will host a high school summer science academy known as, NanoExplorers : A High School Summer Science Academy. The academy will be a six day residential academy where students will live at Cameron for the one week period. The academy will be scheduled for June 3-9, 2018.

George A. Jeffrey NanoExplorers Program 2020 Due to circumstances beyond our control, the 2020 George A. Jeffrey NanoExplorers program has been cancelled. We apologize to those who have already applied or are in the process of doing so, and encourage you to apply again next summer.

NanoExplorers will take place from June 7-12 and 14-19. Participants will engage in hands-on activities designed to introduce the concept of nanotechnology. Activities will include applications in both chemistry and physics as well as information about career opportunities related to nanotechnology.

The George A. Jeffrey NanoExplorers Program promotes nanotechnology-based education for high school students entering the 10th-12th grades. The goal of the program is to inspire high school students to become productive scientists and engineers by enabling them to do original research work.

NanoExplorers have coauthored scientific papers and developed and defended posters explaining their research. An estimated 30 high school students have gone through the NanoExplorers program since its inception. Some become UTD students, others go on to Harvard, Stanford and MIT. Many come back to study at the institute each summer.

I’m sure that some day one or more of those students will wear a lab coat at work and conduct actual research on a campus like ours at the Research Park. I’m glad I stumbled on to them as they unloaded from the buses. It brightened the day.
